What is STEM?
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Senior high school students are introduced to difficult mathematical and scientific theories and concepts as part of the STEM strand, which will serve as a basis for their college studies.
Why Is It Important?
STEM is vital because it instills a desire for creativity and teaches critical thinking abilities. Aside from the obvious benefits of learning science, technology, engineering, and math, STEM helps with problem-solving and inquisitive learning, which are essential for success in a wide range of jobs and disciplines.
What Possible Jobs Can You Get With STEM?
The following is a partial list of STEM careers; Doctors of medicine, Dentists, Professionals in the Medical Field, Engineers, Scientists, Agriculture, Statisticians, Architects, Technicians in Information Technology, Welders, Machinists, Technologists in the Manufacturing Industry, Electrician.
Experiences and Struggles in STEM
Personally, we struggled with the strand, especially given all of the changes that occurred as a result of the pandemic, where everything is now online. It was difficult to adjust, but we eventually got used to it. When you are in the STEM strand, people automatically assume you are smart. They frequently say that it is a difficult strand, scaring those who want the strand when, in reality, it is the polar opposite. STEM is difficult when you are lazy, as we discovered firsthand. It comes with a lot of responsibility and requires a lot of work. We had sleepless nights, breakdowns, doubts, and fears, and I can say that all of the difficulties we faced made us a lot stronger. I met and made a lot of great friends, as well as gained a lot of knowledge which is very important.
One of the issues that we always confront is a shortage of usable electronics and a reliable internet connection. STEM necessitates a large number of tasks and activities that necessitate the use of technology. We are grateful that the school gave us with a tablet that we can utilize. And I have to add that it was a huge help; it also allowed us to work faster and save time. Then there’s the internet connection; living in an area with bad service and having activities that require online communication is the most difficult. When we have online classes, it is always difficult to focus since we constantly disconnect, which leads to confusion and queries regarding the lesson. We are still dealing with it, but we don’t let it affect us.
